A two-day international expert-level meeting dedicated to protecting critical energy infrastructure from terrorist attacks was held in Ashgabat. The event, organized by the Government of Turkmenistan jointly with the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Office (UNOCT) and the Government of the Russian Federation, also became a platform for launching a Technical Manual on this topic.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, during the meeting, the participants discussed threats to energy infrastructure and exchanged best practices in this area. Special attention was paid to strengthening international cooperation and coordination of efforts to ensure the reliability and stability of cross-border energy supplies.

The UN General Assembly resolution "The key role of reliable and stable energy connectivity in ensuring sustainable development", adopted on the initiative of Turkmenistan, provides for the consolidation of the efforts of the international community in overcoming energy crises and calls for ensuring the reliability and stability of cross-border energy supplies.

The United Nations Global Programme to Protect Vulnerable Targets from Terrorist Threats, implemented since 2021, continues to support Member States in building their capacities and developing links between experts.

The international meeting in Ashgabat was an important step in strengthening global security and protecting critical energy infrastructure.
