Turkmenistan intends to expand cooperation with the IAEA in the field of nuclear medicine to develop cancer care in the country. This was stated by the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during an inspection of the construction of the new International Scientific and Clinical Oncology Center, TDH reports.
“It is necessary to intensify cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in the field of healthcare, in particular, nuclear medicine, and hold consultations with its representatives. This is especially important to ensure the safety of waste management at the new facility,” the report says.
The center, whichh is being built in the northern part of Ashgabat in the Choganly residential complex, is designed for 500 beds. The medical facility will house specialized diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation departments for the treatment of oncological diseases.
According to the National Leader of the Turkmen people, special attention will be paid to interaction with the IAEA on issues of safe handling of radioactive waste and equipping the center with modern equipment. Consultations with agency experts are planned.
The head of the Halk Maslahaty emphasized the need to create conditions for improving the qualifications of medical personnel, including internships in leading international clinics. It is also planned to establish direct contacts with specialized medical institutions both within the country and abroad.
