Following the talks in Tashkent, Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov signed a cooperation program between the foreign ministries of the two countries for the period 2025-2026, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reported.
It is noted that during the visit, political consultations were held at the level of foreign ministers of the two countries. During the consultations, the development of political and diplomatic dialogue between the two countries was discussed, and the importance of regular contacts at the highest level was noted. The important role of parliamentary diplomacy in the progressive development of Turkmen-Uzbek relations was emphasized.
In addition, close cooperation within regional and international structures, in particular the UN, was noted. The parties emphasized the importance of holding inter-MFA consultations at the beginning of 2025, which was declared the International Year of Peace and Trust by a special resolution of the UN General Assembly at the initiative of Turkmenistan.
Particular emphasis was placed on strengthening cooperation in the trade and economic sphere, where there is significant potential for joint work. In this regard, the importance of the joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical, Cultural Cooperation and other cooperation mechanisms was noted.
The issues of deepening cooperation in the transport and logistics, energy, water, and industrial sectors were also considered. The parties also discussed important aspects of cultural and humanitarian relations. In this context, the role of mutual Culture Days in strengthening cultural ties between the two fraternal countries was noted. The effectiveness of contacts in science, education, and cinematography was emphasized.
At the end of the consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, a signing ceremony of the Cooperation Program for 2025-2026 and the Protocol on inventory and improvement of the legal framework of Turkmen-Uzbek relations took place, the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry noted.
