President of Turkmenistan held a meeting with the head of Uzbekistan

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev as part of his working visit to Samarkand, where he arrived to participate in the first summit in the Central Asia-European Union format, TDH reports.

During the bilateral talks, the heads of state noted with satisfaction the high level of trust and dynamic development of Turkmen-Uzbek relations in a wide range of areas. Particular attention was paid to cooperation in such strategic areas as agriculture, electric power, oil and gas complex and chemical industry.

The interlocutors also emphasized the importance of forming transport and energy corridors, strengthening interregional ties and joint work to ensure sustainable development and stability in Central Asia. They expressed confidence that the upcoming summit will be a significant step towards a closer and mutually beneficial partnership between the countries of Central Asia and the European Union.

The main events of the summit are scheduled for April 4. They will be attended by the leaders of five Central Asian states, as well as the President of the European Council António Costa, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and other officials.
