Chairman of the State Committee for Construction of the City of Arkadag under the President of Turkmenistan Deryageldi Orazov held an important meeting in Seoul with First Deputy Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of the Republic of Korea Jin Hyun-hwan. The talks focused on the prospects for joint cooperation in key areas: the development of the “smart city” concept and the construction of modern industrial facilities.

According to the Korean department, the meeting confirmed the mutual intentions of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea to expand bilateral partnership.

The meeting took place amid active preparations for the signing of a major agreement with a Korean company on the construction of the Turkmenabat Phosphorus Fertilizer Plant. In this context, the Turkmen delegation got acquainted with the work of a number of industrial facilities successfully operated by leading Korean firms, which became valuable experience for the implementation of future projects.

First Deputy Minister Jin Hyun-hwan emphasized the global leadership and rich experience of South Korea in the field of industrial construction and expressed hope for active support from the Government of Turkmenistan in the implementation of joint projects. Particular attention was paid to the possibilities of exchanging advanced Korean experience in the development of “smart cities”, in particular, in relation to the “Arkadag New City” project, which has the status of a national priority in Turkmenistan.

This dialogue in Seoul is part of the targeted efforts of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of the Republic of Korea to strengthen infrastructure cooperation with the countries of Central Asia. Recently, in April, Korean delegations visited Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. The goal of such regional interaction is to expand ties with resource-rich countries and promote more active participation of Korean companies in strategically important sectors, such as industrial construction and the creation of “smart cities”.

A representative of the Korean ministry said: “We will continue to increase infrastructure cooperation with the countries of Central Asia, relying on the strong technological capabilities and extensive global experience of Korean companies.”
