The first meeting of the Joint Turkmen-Kyrgyz Commission on Transport, Transit, and Logistics was held in Bishkek. The Turkmen delegation was headed by A. Khudaiberdiev, Deputy Director General of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, according to the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Kyrgyzstan.
The meeting focused on key issues of bilateral cooperation in the fields of transportation and logistics. Priority topics included boosting transit shipments, developing multimodal container routes, and expanding cooperation in road, rail, and water transport.
Special attention was given to the potential use of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport for westbound transportation of Kyrgyz cargo. The parties also discussed providing mutual tariff preferences and simplifying visa procedures for participants in international transport operations.
Following the meeting, the signing of a protocol is planned to formalize the agreements reached. The next session of the Commission is scheduled to take place in Turkmenistan in 2026.
Transport cooperation between the two countries gained fresh momentum following the recent visit of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, to Kyrgyzstan on April 23. During the visit, the importance of forming an effective Central Asia–Middle East transport and transit corridor via the Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan–Turkmenistan route was emphasized.
“The transport sector plays a significant role in our cooperation. We see great potential in the transport and logistics capabilities of our region. Therefore, we consider it essential to make more effective use of the Central Asia–Middle East corridor. In this context, the Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan–Turkmenistan route, with access to seaports in the Persian Gulf and the Caspian Sea, represents a strategically important step. We are ready to create mutually acceptable conditions for using the infrastructure of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport,” said Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during his meeting with President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov.
