President of Turkmenistan holds meeting on agricultural sector development

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov held a working meeting with Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Tangryguly Atakhallyev and the hyakims (governors) of the provinces, during which current issues of the country's agricultural sector were discussed, reports TDH.

Deputy Prime Minister Tangryguly Atakhallyev delivered a report on the progress of seasonal work in the agricultural sector. According to the information presented, a full range of agrotechnical measures is being carried out in the wheat fields. Preparations are underway for the grain harvest campaign, including readying grain reception centers, elevators, and specialized machinery to ensure timely harvesting.

Simultaneously, irrigation is being carried out on cotton fields, while areas with seedlings are undergoing inter-row cultivation, thinning, and weeding. Proper care is also being provided to the fields planted with spring potatoes, melons, vegetables, and other food crops.

The Deputy Prime Minister also reported on the start of the silkworm cocoon production season, as well as on preventive measures being taken to prevent fires in forest zones, pastures, and agricultural lands amid rising air temperatures.

After hearing the report, the head of state emphasized the strategic role of the agricultural sector within the national economy and stressed the need for effective solutions to the challenges facing the industry, particularly in ensuring the country’s food security and the uninterrupted supply of raw materials to the textile industry.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov instructed the Deputy Prime Minister to maintain strict control over the implementation of measures in this area and drew special attention of the meeting participants to the importance of conducting current seasonal work with high quality and carefully preparing for the upcoming grain harvest campaign.
