The 18th meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Iranian Commission on Economic Cooperation was held in Tehran on May 19-20, 2025, under the leadership of co-chairs - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran Farzaneh Sadegh Malwajerd. The meeting was attended by representatives of government agencies and business circles of both countries.
During the meeting, the parties discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation, including trade and economic sector, transport and logistics, gas industry, industry, agriculture and water management, investment and standardization. Particular attention was paid to the analysis of the implementation of the decisions of the previous meeting of the commission.
The Turkmen side put forward an initiative to create trade and economic zones on certain sections of the Turkmen-Iranian border, which should stimulate the development of mutual trade. The delegations also exchanged views on the prospects for cooperation in the fields of science, education, culture, healthcare, sports, tourism and environmental protection.
Following the meeting, the Protocol of the 18th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission was signed. The participants expressed confidence that the agreements reached would contribute to strengthening cooperation between the two countries on a mutually beneficial basis.
During the visit, the Turkmen delegation also held separate meetings with Iranian Energy Minister Abbas Aliabadi and Oil Minister Mohsen Pahnejad.
