President Serdar Berdimuhamedov Metts With FAO Director-General

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov received Director-General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Qu Dongyu on Wednesday in Ashgabat, according to Turkmenistan’s official media.

Qu expressed appreciation for the meeting and confirmed FAO’s interest in expanding cooperation with Turkmenistan, noting the high level of reforms in the country’s agricultural sector. The importance of Turkmenistan’s international environmental initiatives was also emphasized.

Berdimuhamedov said Turkmenistan contributes to strengthening global food security, continues to improve governance of the agricultural sector, pays close attention to the rational use of land and water resources, and introduces digital technologies into agricultural production.

During the meeting, it was noted that a number of FAO-supported projects are being implemented in Turkmenistan to modernize agriculture, increase productivity and introduce modern technologies, as well as initiatives under the Green Climate Fund and the One Health approach.

The president reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s readiness to further expand cooperation with FAO.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Berdimuhamedov and Qu exchanged best wishes.

An international conference on food security in the context of climate change will be held in Ashgabat on Jan. 22, 2026.
