Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan discussed the development of digital customs procedures, including the creation of a joint roadmap to synchronize information systems and integration into the international e-TIR project, Turkmenistan's State Customs Service reported on Tuesday.

The talks took place on July 7 in Ashgabat between the Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan and Deputy Chairman of Azerbaijan's State Customs Committee Natig Shirinov. The meeting was held during the visit of the Azerbaijani delegation to attend the ninth meeting of the Turkmen-Azerbaijani Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation.

According to Turkmenistan's State Customs Service, the sides noted that bilateral cooperation had reached a new level following Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov's visit to Azerbaijan. They said the practical outcomes of the cooperation included the signing of documents on the exchange of advance information and customs statistics.

The participants also discussed the implementation of the Smart Customs concept. In particular, they considered the preparation of a joint roadmap providing for the synchronization of digital systems, the introduction of automated risk analysis mechanisms and the development of the Single Window system.

The sides also discussed integration into the international e-TIR project, which is expected to speed up cargo clearance, including at the ports of Turkmenbashi and Baku.

At the conclusion of the meeting, representatives of the two countries reaffirmed their commitment to continuing cooperation in customs administration and joint efforts to develop the region's transit potential.
