Speech by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan at the extended Cabinet of Ministers meeting

10.12.2024

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov held an extended meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers with the participation of heads of diplomatic missions and consular offices of Turkmenistan in foreign countries and representatives of our country at international organizations. The agenda included priority issues of foreign policy implemented by neutral Turkmenistan on the international stage, reports TDH.

"Dear members of the Cabinet of Ministers!
Dear participants of the meeting!

Today we will summarize the activities carried out by Turkmenistan in 2024 related to international cooperation, as well as discuss the key vectors of the country's foreign policy and priority tasks in this direction for the coming year.

Dear participants of the meeting!

I would like to note that in 2024, events of international significance were held. The 300th anniversary of the birth of the great son of the Turkmen people, Magtymguly Pyragy, was widely celebrated in our country and abroad. On the occasion of this significant date, about 170 important events were organized abroad.

The main event of the year was the International Conference "Interconnection of Times and Civilizations - the Basis of Peace and Development," held in Ashgabat, dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the birth of Magtymguly Pyragy.

The forum served as a significant unifying factor in strengthening international peace, mutual understanding, trust, and confidence in the power and potential of a developed culture of dialogue, based on the philosophical heritage of Magtymguly Pyragy.

This international forum enhanced Turkmenistan's reputation as a peace-loving state and demonstrated the great respect of the international community for our country, the Turkmen people, and its rich history and culture.

Dear participants of the meeting!

Next year, large-scale events will be held to mark the glorious 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality and the declaration by the United Nations General Assembly, at the proposal of our country, of 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust.

An important event was also the recent adoption during the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly of the Resolution "Treaty on a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone in Central Asia," initiated by Turkmenistan. It is a great honor for us that this proposal was supported by many member countries of the United Nations.

Dear participants of the meeting!
Dear people!

I sincerely congratulate all of you on these historically significant events in the life of the country and the successes achieved.

All of them, along with the broad recognition of Turkmenistan's foreign policy, are a celebration of the activities carried out for the sake of universal peace, ensuring sustainable development, and strengthening relations based on trust.

In this context, it is necessary to continue effectively the ongoing work on developing cooperation with international organizations in this direction.

Dear participants of the meeting!

Attention should be focused on preparing a document of international significance in 2025 on the occasion of the International Day of Neutrality. This document should vividly reflect the norms of neutrality. In this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs needs to develop appropriate instructions for our country's embassies and permanent missions abroad.

It is also necessary to attach great importance to cooperation within the framework of the Group of Friends of Neutrality for Peace, Security, and Sustainable Development, created at the initiative of Turkmenistan. On December 11 of this year, a high-level meeting of this Group will be held in Ashgabat.

Dear participants of the meeting!

Our activities should be carried out mainly in two directions, in particular, in the field of bilateral and multilateral diplomacy. Based on this, in order to implement the Strategy of Global Security of Turkmenistan in the future, special importance should be given to increasing the number of states supporting the initiative to grant neutral countries the status of priority partnership with the UN in the peacekeeping efforts of the United Nations.

In foreign policy, great attention should be paid to interaction with African countries.

I would like to address separately the representatives of Turkmenistan at international organizations. In the coming year, multilateral diplomacy will gain great importance. In this context, it is necessary to carry out relevant work to increase the number of countries supporting Turkmenistan's positions as a neutral state and providing effective assistance to our country in this matter.

Dear participants of the meeting!

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is carrying out program activities to ensure a worthy celebration of significant dates and holidays. In this regard, in September of this year, an Organizing Committee was created to hold events to mark the International Year of Peace and Trust. I instruct the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan to prepare for the first meeting of the Organizing Committee in January of the coming year and to present proposals for its agenda. At the meeting of the Organizing Committee, we will approve the Plan of upcoming events.

Dear participants of the meeting!

Together with the international community, we must work diligently to mark the historically significant and memorable dates - the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality and the events of the International Year of Peace and Trust - with wonderful events and great successes in 2025.

Dear participants of the meeting!

I am firmly confident that you will carry out large-scale activities to protect the interests of the independent neutral Motherland on the international stage.

I congratulate everyone on the upcoming International Day of Neutrality, wish you good health, happiness, and great success in your work for the benefit of the people and the Motherland," said President of Turkmenistan in his address.
