Qatar joined the discussion of the Trans-Afghan railway project

A quadripartite meeting was held in Tashkent with the participation of the leadership of the ministries of transport and railway administration of Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Qatar.

At the meeting held on Tuesday, February 6, issues related to the implementation of the Trans-Afghan Railway construction project were discussed. The implementation of this project is important in the development of transport links and trade relations in the Central Asian and South Asian regions.

During the negotiations, the delegations discussed various aspects of the project, including financing mechanisms, construction issues, and technical details, the press service of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan reported.

The day before, on February 5, the Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Makhkamov met with representatives of the Qatari delegation led by Deputy Minister of Transport Hamad Isa Abdullah. They discussed issues of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Qatar in the field of transport and logistics, as well as joint projects for the development of transport corridors. In particular, the parties exchanged views on the Trans-Afghan Railway project.

In February 2021, in Tashkent, the authorities of Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan signed a roadmap for the construction of the Termez - Mazar-i-Sharif - Kabul - Peshawar railway. In October last year, the Uzbekistan Temir Yollari company held a presentation of the Transfagan Railway project for the Ministry of Transport of Qatar.
