Cotton Sowing Begins in Turkmenistan

27.03.2025

On March 26, Turkmenistan launched its annual cotton sowing campaign. Farmers from the country’s five regions—Ahal, Balkan, Dashoguz, Lebap, and Mary—began planting the "white gold," TDH reports.

The sowing ceremony was held in accordance with national traditions. Honored elders, after offering prayers for the country's and people's well-being, symbolically planted the first seeds, after which machine operators took over the process.

A key feature of this year’s sowing campaign is the use of modern agricultural machinery, including John Deere tractors equipped with a telematics digital system. All necessary conditions have been created on-site to ensure comfortable working conditions for agricultural workers, including round-the-clock technical support.

Turkmenistan is actively developing innovative approaches to cotton cultivation. Efforts are underway to breed new early-maturing, high-yield cotton varieties, and biolaboratories are being prepared for the production of eco-friendly plant protection products.

Cotton farming remains one of the key sectors of Turkmenistan’s agriculture, a major export commodity, and the foundation of the country’s textile industry.
