Trade Volume Between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan Proposed to Reach 5 Billion USD

Negotiations were held in Samarkand between the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev. During the talks, the two sides discussed the prospects for further strengthening the strategic partnership between their countries. According to TDH, the meeting took place in both a narrow and expanded format at the Congress Center of the "Silk Road Samarkand" complex.

During the negotiations, the leaders noted with satisfaction the dynamic development of cooperation in political-diplomatic, inter-parliamentary, trade-economic, transport-communication, and cultural-humanitarian spheres. As of last year, the volume of mutual trade reached 1.1 billion USD, with the main goal for the coming years being to increase trade turnover to 2 billion USD. However, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov proposed aiming for a target of 5 billion USD in the future.

Among the promising areas for cooperation, energy, transport, agriculture, and water resource management were highlighted. Work is also underway to create a cross-border trade zone "Dashoguz – Shabat."

During the meeting, it was agreed to hold the Third Turkmen-Uzbek Interregional Forum in the city of Khiva and the Days of Turkmenistan's Culture in Uzbekistan this year. Additionally, it was emphasized that a high-level Turkmen delegation would visit Samarkand on May 5, 2025, to participate in the second Summit of the Strategic Dialogue "Central Asia – Gulf Cooperation Council," and Tashkent on September 6-7, 2025, to take part in the seventh Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Heads of State.

At the end of the meeting, the President of Uzbekistan presented Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with the book "Hakida Gawkhari" in Uzbek.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also invited the Uzbek leader to the upcoming international forum for landlocked developing countries, scheduled for August 2025, which will be held under the auspices of the United Nations in the National Tourist Zone "Avaza."
