Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov arrived in Japan on a working visit to participate in the first "Central Asia + Japan" Dialogue Summit, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reported.

The presidential plane landed at Tokyo Haneda International Airport. The Turkmen leader was warmly greeted by officials at the airport in the Japanese capital, according to a statement.

This is Serdar Berdimuhamedov's second visit to Japan this year. In April 2025, he attended the ceremony to mark Turkmenistan's National Day at the World Expo in Osaka. The Turkmen pavilion at EXPO 2025 was the first to open and became one of the most visited.

Turkmen-Japanese cooperation is developing based on the principles of mutual respect and equality. Thanks to partnerships with leading Japanese companies Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Mitsubishi Corporation, Itochu, and Sojitz, major industrial facilities have been built in Turkmenistan, including a plant for producing environmentally friendly gasoline from natural gas in Ovadandepe, a polymer plant in Kiyanly, and a urea plant in Garabogaz.

Within the framework of humanitarian cooperation, the Oguz han Engineering and Technology University was opened in Ashgabat, where instruction is conducted according to Japanese educational standards. Japanese is taught in educational institutions in Turkmenistan, and Turkmen students undertake internships at Japanese universities.
