The route map for the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) power transmission project has been completed and will be sent to the Turkmen side in the near future, Abdul Bari Omar, head of Afghanistan’s state-owned energy company, said following talks with Turkmen representatives. TOLOnews reported this on Saturday.

The meeting focused on the overall progress of the TAP project and the next steps in its implementation. Omar also outlined plans to generate electricity using gas from the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan- Pakistan-India (TAPI) pipeline project and stressed the need to finalize gas pricing.

Turkmen representatives confirmed readiness to cooperate and emphasized that the TAP and TAPI projects are of key importance for energy cooperation and the economic interests of both countries.

On Oct. 20, 2025, Turkmenistan’s National Leader and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, approved the next stage of a strategic section of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline to Afghanistan’s Herat province — the Serhetabat-Herat route, known as Arkadagyň Ak ýoly.
