Turkmenistan is discussing with foreign companies the establishment of modern data centers that could be used for high-performance computing and cryptocurrency projects, Minister of Energy of Turkmenistan Annageldi Saparov said at the international conference “White City Ashgabat” on Monday in Ashgabat.

According to the minister, such projects would help the country efficiently use surplus electricity generation capacity and support the development of the digital economy.

Annageldi Saparov noted that Turkmenistan’s Law on Virtual Assets entered into force on Jan. 1, 2026. The legislation created a legal framework for the operation of cryptocurrency exchanges and the legalization of cryptocurrency mining.

The minister emphasized Turkmenistan’s readiness to cooperate with international companies in the fields of energy, digital infrastructure and advanced technologies.

Annageldi Saparov also said the development of green energy remains one of the country’s priorities. With support from the Asian Development Bank, Turkmenistan continues to study wind energy potential to identify sites for future wind power plants.
