US Deputy Secretary Of State Begins Turkmenistan Visit With Horses

08.06.2026

Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs Sarah Rogers arrived in Turkmenistan on an official visit. The program began with an introduction to one of the country’s main national symbols — the Akhal-Teke horse. This was reported on Monday by the US Embassy in Turkmenistan.

According to the Embassy, beginning the visit with an introduction to Akhal-Teke horses was not coincidental. Turkmenistan has declared 2026 as the year “Independent, Permanently Neutral Turkmenistan — Land of Swift Horses,” highlighting the important role of the Akhal-Teke breed in the history, culture, and national values of the Turkmen people.

During the visit, the American delegation was introduced to centuries-old traditions of breeding and caring for Akhal-Teke horses. Considered one of the oldest horse breeds in the world, they are regarded as a national symbol of Turkmenistan.

The US delegation is scheduled to hold meetings aimed at developing bilateral cooperation and strengthening relations between the United States and Turkmenistan.
