From July 1-3, negotiations between representatives of Turkmenistan and Iran took place in Ashgabat, during which a wide range of issues related to the further development of cooperation in the gas industry were discussed. The main topic of the meetings was the use of great opportunities for effective cooperation in gas supplies.
Following the negotiations, the parties signed a contract for the purchase and sale of natural gas with a volume of up to 10 billion cubic meters per year. This gas will be supplied from Turkmenistan to the Republic of Iraq through the territory of Iran under the "SWAP" scheme.
Currently, Turkmenistan and Iran are actively working on the implementation of previously reached agreements at the highest state level on the development of gas cooperation. As part of these agreements, Iranian companies will build a new 125-kilometer gas pipeline and three gas compressor stations on the territory of Turkmenistan. These measures are necessary to supply additional volumes of gas to Iran.
In addition, it is planned to increase the volume of gas supplied to Iran via the existing routes of Dovletabad – Sarahs – Hangeran and through the Chaloyuk gas measuring station. Taking into account the new capacities, the volume of supplies can reach 40 billion cubic meters per year.
